What to expect from Blast Off!

• The newsletter is emailed Wednesday mornings about 50 times a year. Since many parents rely on BO!, you’ll get a heads up if we take a week off (certain times of the year, literally nothing is going on).

Blast Off! aims for a thoughtful mix of family-oriented arts, science, nature and the outdoors in the five boroughs, as well as destinations up to two hours away. We’re not pay to play. The newsletter delivers my best takes on the weekend, so parents don’t have to comb through listings or deal with spammy websites and pop up ads.

• Speaking of combing the listings…clicking stuff only to discover it’s sold out is annoying. Blast Off! vets the availability of events before hitting send. If an event is selling tickets quickly or few tickets remain, you’ll see it in the listing. Since events do book up, the best way to use the newsletter is open it on Wednesday.

• Your feedback is always welcome, whether an event was awesome or meh. If there are certain events or adventures you’d like to see, hit me up at blastoffkids@gmail.com

• Thoughtful content, delivered for free, no strings attached…seems too good to be true. “How long can you keep this up?” is something I’m often asked. The growth in subscribers is encouraging and motivating. Looking ahead, I’d like to cover the expenses of running the newsletter, and would only do it in ways that uphold the integrity of what we’re building. For now, I want more parents to discover BO! and be for more people what Mark Krotov described in a Culture Diary for the NYT, “the most important email I receive every week.”
