It was a very fortunate turn of events for New York City families when three Stuyvesant High School students teamed up to share their passion for STEM with the greater community. Andrew Glick, Nisan Safanov and Veronika Gulko formed New York City Tech & Engineering in 2023 to give kids and families an inside look at the extensive STEM offerings at Stuyvesant. “We do a lot of amazing stuff at Stuy,” said Andrew, a member of the Robotics Team. “We decided we wanted to show people.”
NYCT&E’s first big project was a STEM Fair in March 2024. It featured stations for the Robotics Team, the Science Olympiad (Nisan and Veronika are members of SciOly) and a few STEM projects. More than 100 people showed up so NYCT&E organized an even bigger STEM Fair with more booths and hands-on activities in April 2025 (pictured above) attended by 600 kids and adults. Visitors also got to tour the Lin Brothers Robotics Lab that opened in 2022 and the Irwin Zahn Innovation Lab.
Now the group is expanding beyond Lower Manhattan to a collaboration with the ToIvy.com test prep center in Bath Beach, Brooklyn. NYCT&E will host an Open House on Sunday, May 18, 9:00am-10:30am and 11:00am-1:30pm. Geared to upper elementary and middle school grades, kids will have the chance to go more in-depth in four STEM workshops: Bio-Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Coding and Robotics. If that sounds heady, Nisan, Veronika and Andrew remember what got them excited about STEM at age 10 and have chosen the projects accordingly. “It’s not just learning, learning, learning. It’s cool applications of the topics,” said Andrew. If the workshops go well, there’s the possibility that NYCT&E will run a program for the summer and school year at the location.
Space for the Open House is limited. Find workshop descriptions and sign up here.
