Pier 26: Hudson River Park

From the March 20, 2024 edition. There’s a new place to play and learn about the habitat of the Hudson River. The long awaited Science Playground at Pier 26 opened earlier this year at Hudson River Park in Tribeca. The 4,000-square-foot playground is compact, and dominated by two endangered sturgeons, the Atlantic sturgeon and the shortnose sturgeon, both native to the Hudson River.

Kids won’t hesitate to climb and play on the larger-than-life creatures. While doing that, they can also explore fish anatomy and interact with marine-oriented features. The Science Playground is the park’s fifth children’s play area. If you go, be sure to stop by the Discovery Tank at Pier 57, offering guided, hands-on activities, Wednesday-Saturday.
