If you ever wanted to visit the famous lighthouse on the banks of the Hudson River under the George Washington Bridge, there a few times of the year you can do it. The annual Little Red Lighthouse Festival takes place each fall in late September or early October, at Fort Washington Park.
The festival features live readings of The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge, the charming children’s book that helped save the iconic structure, plus live music, a performance by the City Parks Foundation Puppetmobile, and limited timed tours of the 40′ structure. Additionally the lighthouse is open on select weekend dates throughout the year. These access dates are a more low key affair, with limited hours and timed tours with the Urban Park Rangers.
Fort Washington Park is located West 178th Street and the Hudson River, Washington Heights. Upcoming dates will be included in the Blast Off! newsletter. For further information, visit nycgovparks.org
