Next time you visit the New York Hall of Science, Queens Museum or Queens Theatre, be sure to stop by the “Home for Retired Playground Animals” in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Six well-used playground animals from all over the city were moved to the new space adjacent to the Unisphere in 2023.
These senior sculptures are not for climbing, but families can enjoy and appreciate their decades of service to city kids in a contemplative new space. “We hope that despite their retirement, they will continue to inspire creativity and imagination in park goers into the future,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue at a retirement party for the playground animals held in 2023.
